In 2013, Alex Phillips left his position, as Director of ICT at a leading East Anglian Independent School, with the vision to create a place for making memories and personal discovery and connection. By June 2014 the Centre had converted the old milking parlour and dairy on the family farm to changing rooms and classroom and with three activities (Nature Walks, Low Ropes and Den-building) the Centre welcomed its first school group.

Since then the Centre has grown to from 150 visits in the first year to over 5000 in 2019. In 2020, with the Covid Crisis holding most organisations back the team at Birch Hall Adventures set to work to use the time to expand and built a bunkhouse to allow the Centre to move into year-round operation.
